Abstract This paper examines the role of entrepreneurship in empowering Nigerian youth through home economics education. The paper shows how entrepreneurship taught through home economics can help empower youth. Two research questions were formulated to guide the study. 200 students were used as respondents, selected randomly from 10 schools: 5 from Ika North East and 5 from Ika South, all in the Agbor metropolis. Questionnaires were used for data collection. The data were analysed using the mean rating. The importance of entrepreneurship in empowering Nigerian youth and techniques that can be adopted to integrate entrepreneurship education into the school system were highlighted. Conclusions and recommendations were made.

Abstract The study was designed to identify problems and solutions on how to enhance the teaching and learning of clothing and textiles in schools. The areas of the study were the Della State of Nigeria, and the population was made up of five hundred and twenty-five (525) Home Economics teachers. The sample consisted of 185 teachers drawn from the population through random sampling. Questionnaires were used for data collection. The study identified some solutions that can improve the teaching of clothing construction, difficulties in drafting patterns, and measures to be adopted to improve the interest of the government, teachers, and students in clothing and textiles. Recommendations for effective teaching and learning of clothing and textiles include the following: the curriculum should be modified so that at an earlier stage, children can be taught to be productive and creative; the government should provide materials, tools, equipment, and qualified manpower; teachers should encourage students to always complete a project started; and the government should always encourage teachers to participate in in-service training, workshops, and study leave with pay.

Abstract Child labour is a major problem that has been in existence since the history of mankind. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of child labour practises on the academic performance of pupils in the Delta North Senatorial Zone; more specifically, the study was designed to investigate the effect of child labour practises on their academic performance and the socio-economic status of children involved in the practice. The study was guided by two hundred questions and two null hypotheses. Ten (10) primary schools were used from the five zones, with a sample of two hundred (200) pupils from each zone. The structured interview schedule was used to collect data from pupils while their teacher supplied the average score grades of the promotion exams. The collected data was statistically analysed using the Z-test and the Pearson Product Moment Correlation techniques in testing the hypotheses. The major findings were as follows: (1) The pupils not involved in child labour practises performed academically better than those involved. (2) The economic hardship in the country has forced parents to involve their children in child labour without regard to their socio-economic status. But the practise was found to be more common among families of low socioeconomic status. Based on the findings, the government should not only stop mass retrenchment of working parents but also improve the wages of those working to alleviate poverty among parents so that they would not have to depend on the wages of child labour.

Abstract The paper focuses on obesity and its associated problems for health. The study was carried out in Ika Metropolis, Delta State, Nigeria. The sample consisted of one hundred adults. Purposive sampling was used. The study was guided by two research questions. The instrument for collecting the data was a structured 15 questionnaires data as analysed using the mean rating. Based on the findings of the study, six recommendations were made, among which are: (1) Nutritional education should be made compulsory in primary and secondary schools to enable pupils and students to modify their eating habits and teach all members of their household so as to avoid the health problems of obesity. (2) Since vigorous exercise helps the body burn more calories, it should be adopted to keep physically active. There should be public awareness about the importance of balancing calorie intake with expenditure. (4) The public should be enlightened about the various types of health problems associated with obesity

Abstract This study assessed consumption pattern of fruits and vegetables among secondary school students in Delta State, Nigeria. Two research questions were answered by the study while two hypotheses were tested. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for the study was 46,286 Senior Secondary School (SSS) II Students. Multistage random sampling technique was used to determine the sample size of 384 SSS II students for the study. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire face-validated by four experts while reliability of the instrument achieved using Cronbach Alpha reliability technique which yielded reliability coefficients of 0.91 and 0.88 for Parts B and C of the questionnaire respectively. Data were analysed using Mean and t-test statistics. The results showed that the students “Often” consumed Fruits and Vegetables. Fruits such as Oranges, Banana, Pawpaw, African star apple (udala) are highly preferred among students while Vegetables such as Carrot, Fluted pumpkin leaf (ugu), Tomatoes and Water leaf are more preferred by the students. There was significant (p<0.05) difference between the mean ratings of Male and Female Students on consumption pattern of Fruits and Vegetables and on preference for consumption of certain Fruits. There is no significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of Male and Female Students on the preference for consumption of Vegetables. Based on the findings, the study recommended increased availability of all varieties of Fruits and Vegetables in school environment and gardens may stimulate students’ interest in fruits and vegetable consumptions.

Abstract This paper investigated the role of functional food awareness in combating degenerative diseases for educational development in 21st century Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population consists of 304 academic staff, 874 non-academic staff, and 5882 students at the College of Education, Agbor. The sample size consisted of 300 respondents, 158 men (53%), and 142 females (476), aged 18–58 years. The stratified random sampling technique was used to select 110 respondents from each of three groups: academic, non-academic, and students of the College of Education, Agbor. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire titled "Role of Functional Foods Awareness in Combating Degenerative Diseases Questionnaires" (RFFACDQ). The instrument was validated through expert judgement from the Vocational Education Department at Delta State University, Abraka. The reliability of the instrument was established using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r), and it was found reliable at 0.85. Three hundred and thirty (330) questionnaires were randomly distributed in the College of Education Agbor to academic staff, non-academic staff, and students in the ratio of their populations. Out of the three hundred and thirty questionnaires that were distributed, three hundred were retrieved. The research questions were analysed using percentages, mean ratings, standard deviations, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The study revealed that the majority of the respondents were not aware of the term "functional foods." On the level of utilisation of functional foods in combating degenerative diseases, the majority of the respondents utilise functional foods but lack knowledge of their benefits in combating degenerative diseases. The respondents got their information about functional foods from friends, relatives, health professionals, television, textbooks, newspapers, and magazines. The study also revealed that food habits, taste, and price influenced respondents' choices of foods.

Abstract The study assessed the impact of nutrition education instruction on fruits and vegetables hygiene behaviours of secondary school students in Delta State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses were developed to guide the study using ex-post facto research design. Through multistage sampling technique, 384 Senior Secondary School (SSS II) Students from public schools were selected across the state for the study. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire, face-validated by four experts. The reliability of the instrument was achieved using Cronbach Alpha reliability technique which yielded reliability coefficients of 0.76 and 0.84 for the two clusters of the instrument. Data were collected with the help of trained research assistants. Out of the 384 questionnaires administered, 363 copies were retrieved and considered suitable which represents 94.5% rate of return. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics such as mean (x), standard deviations and t-test statistics. The results of the data analysis showed that Nutrition Education, to a high extent positively influenced observations of students’ hygiene practices in fruits and vegetable consumption and food storage practices of urban and rural students of senior secondary schools in Delta State. The results of the hypotheses tested showed no significant (p<0.05) differences between the mean ratings of urban and rural students on the extent to which Nutrition Education influence students’ observation of personal hygiene and storage practices of fruits and vegetable in Delta State. Based on the findings, the study among others recommended well planned and delivered Nutrition Education instruction on fruits and vegetables hygiene and storage practices for students to learn.

Abstract This paper discusses achieving 2030 SDG-2 through improving the sanitary condition of foodstuffs marketed in Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas of Delta State. Two hundred and sixty respondents were used for the study. The survey design was used for this research, and a stratified random sampling technique was used to select 260 respondents comprising 70 men and 140 women who were in full-time business and 50 farmers. A questionnaire was used to elicit information from respondents. Four research questions were raised. The data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Seven causes of unsanitary conditions of foodstuffs marketed were identified. Six ways of improving the marketing of agricultural products were recognized, and eight ways of improving the sanitary conditions of foodstuffs marketed were suggested. Also, five benefits to be derived for improving the sanitary conditions of foodstuffs marketed to ensure food safety were listed.

Abstract The study investigated entrepreneurial engagement of Nigerian youths in fruits juice enterprise for sustainable livelihood in post pandemic using Delta State as case study. The study adopted survey research design. The population for the study was 136 subjects, comprising 40 Home Economics Lecturers and 96 registered fruits juice entrepreneurs. The instrument for data collection for the study was a structured closeended questionnaire face-validated by three experts and with Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.87. Data were collected by the researchers with the help of four research assistants. Out of the 136 copies of the questionnaire administered, 131 copies were completely filed and returned representing 96.3% return rate. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. From the results, the study identified 18 equipment required by youths for fruits juice production, 20 requisite skills required by youth for fruits juice production and 12 requisite skills required by youth for marketing of fruit juice. There are no significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of Home Economics lecturers and registered fruits juice entrepreneurs on the equipment (t-cal=0.41) and requisite skills (t-cal=0.37) required by youth for marketing fruits juice, whereas, there is significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of Home Economics lecturers and registered fruits juice entrepreneurs on the requisite skills (t-cal=2.12) required by youth for fruits juice production. Hence, the study recommended adequate provision of required training and subsidized equipment and facilities to youth in entrepreneurial engagement in fruits juice enterprise.

Abstract This research delves into the intricate dynamics of waterborne pathogens and their influence on water quality and public health protection. The study's primary objective is to unveil the mechanisms governing the transport and fate of these pathogens in various water bodies, utilizing a robust methodology that combines data collection, statistical analysis, mathematical modelling, and geographic information systems. The data encompass pathogen concentrations, water quality parameters, and other relevant variables collected across diverse locations, depths, and downstream areas. A rigorous preprocessing and validation process ensures the quality and integrity of the data, while normalization provides consistency for meaningful analysis. The results of our study offer illuminating insights into the interactions between water quality parameters and pathogen concentrations. Statistical analyses reveal significant associations, which have implications for understanding pathogen behaviour's temporal and spatial trends. Mathematical models, validated against the data, provide a comprehensive framework for simulating the transport and fate of waterborne pathogens. Spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) helps pinpoint areas of concern and potential contamination sources, further enhancing the study's utility. The findings yield practical recommendations for improving water quality and public health protection, encompassing strategies for mitigating pathogen contamination and enhancing water quality management. This research advances our knowledge of waterborne pathogen dynamics and serves as a practical resource for water quality professionals, public health agencies, and environmental scientists. By elucidating the intricate interplay between pathogens, ecological parameters, and public health, this study contributes to enhancing water quality and safeguarding public health, reinforcing the importance of rigorous scientific research in these critical domains.

Abstract The results of this study addressed the effectiveness of smart home technologies in terms of energy consumption, cost reduction, and environmental advantages in Nigerian homes. Given the growing energy requirements and concern for the environment, assessing the efficiency of such technologies is critical for socioeconomic development. We collected data using a combination of surveys and statistical analysis in five major Nigerian cities: Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu. We evaluated smart home technologies such as smart thermostats, lighting systems, appliances, plugs, and energy monitoring systems based on their energy savings (%), monthly cost savings (NGN), kilogram of CO2 emissions cut, and percent adoption. We used descriptive analysis and regression modeling to analyze the data collected from the respondents. The introduction of smart technologies reduced general energy use by fifteen to twenty-five percent, with smart appliances recording the highest reduction of up to 25%. This feature demonstrated how monthly cost savings varied depending on the technology and geographical location, resulting in significant increases of up to 4000 NGN per household, each household saw a reduction in CO2 emissions by 500 kg to 700 kg annually, resulting in significant environmental benefits. According to the studies, smart home technologies can help promote energy conservation and therefore reduce CO2 emissions in Nigerian households. However, there are still widely recognized obstacles, like high initial costs and a low level of awareness. offering financial incentives, improving Information Promotion of existing policies and overhauling the distribution systems to increase the pace of uptake and impact returns.

Abstract The study examined public private partnership initiative in entrepreneurship education for Nigerian youths in fast food industry using Delta State as case study. Two research questions and tested two null hypotheses guided the study. The population for the study was 278 subjects, comprising 40 Home Economics lecturers and 238 registered fast food entrepreneurs. All the 278 subjects were involved as respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire developed by the researchers. The instrument was validated by three experts drawn from Home Economics Department section of Delta State University, Abraka. The reliability of the questionnaire yielded Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.94. Data for the study were collected by the researchers with the help of trained research assistants. Out of the 278 copies of the questionnaire administered, 259 copies were properly filled and returned indicating 96.2% return rate. Data extracted from retrieved questionnaire were analysed using mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. The results of the study identified 30 fast food enterprises in which youths can be self-employed for income generation and 10 public private partnership (PPP) initiatives in entrepreneurship education for job creation among Nigerian youths in fast food industry. Based on the findings, the study recommended among others that there should be more careful and proactive measures towards incorporating the identified public and private partnership initiatives in entrepreneurship education and training of teeming Nigerian youths.

Abstract This paper examined a comparative analysis between Financial Literacy and Household Budgeting Practices among Families in Delta, Nigeria. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. Using stratified random sampling, a sample size of 300 households was determined to be representative of the different socio-economic strata. This method of sampling is adopted to ensure that the populations of interest in Delta State are represented proportionately. The sample was stratified into urban and rural districts since financial behaviour might be different between urban and rural households. This quantitative study draws on data collected through a structured survey questionnaire from 300 state homes. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize demographic data and give an overview of financial literacy levels and budgeting practices across the sample. There was a significant positive relationship between the level of financial knowledge and household budgeting. Those more financially literate households were more likely to budget, save, track expenditures, and plan for the future—lower financial literacy households overspent, saved little, and had little financial planning. Financial literacy affects budgeting. Educational level, income, and financial services access also determined financial literacy. Higher-income and educated households were more likely to understand financial concepts and budget discipline. Financial knowledge and budgeting were poorer in rural communities with little financial resources. The study, therefore, recommended the need for tailored financial education initiatives that address specific issues relevant to low-income and rural populations. There should be integration of financial literacy into school curricula and community-based financial education workshops.

Abstract The study looked into the culinary skills, nutritional knowledge, and food hygiene awareness of female secondary school students in Delta State, Nigeria, with a focus on disparities between urban and rural settings. A mixed-method approach was utilized, including surveys, interviews, and practical skills assessments. This is a descriptive survey research study that assesses the cooking skills of 64 selected female students from Delta State, Nigeria. The outcomes revealed that a great gap between urban and rural students' culinary competencies and related knowledge exists. The urban students were found to be more capable of advanced cooking techniques, nutrition understanding, and handling food safely due to better availability of resources, modern facilities, and the expertise of teachers. In contrast, rural students lacked all the facilities, training materials, and exposure to diverse skills for skill acquisition to take place. The study identified bottlenecks in the form of outdated curricula, gender stereotyping, and a lack of adequate time available for practical learning in both city and village schools. These findings stress the need for further investments in vocational education infrastructure at rural levels and specifically targeted nutrition and hygiene education programs. Teacher training programs, curriculum renewal, and assurance of gender equity in culinary education are the recommendations from this study. These facts form a basis on which policymakers and educators can improve culinary and nutritional education in Nigeria by giving students important life skills and creating equal opportunities for personal and professional fulfilment.

Abstract The study investigated the post COVID hygiene management competencies required by childcare-givers in day care centres in Delta State using descriptive survey research design. Two research questions were answered while two null hypotheses were tested. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select 395 respondents, comprising 256 caregivers in day care centres and 139 senior nurses in public health centres in the state. The instrument used for data collection was a 32-item structured questionnaire. The response option for the questionnaire was 4-point rating scale of Highly Required (HR); Averagely Required (AR); Less Required (LR) and Not Required (NR) with corresponding values of 4, 3, 2 and 1 respectively. Three experts validated the instrument and Cronbach Alpha reliability technique was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument, which yielded a coefficient of 0.931. Data were collected by the researcher with the help of ten well trained researcher assistants. Out of the 395 copies of the questionnaire administered, 378 copies were completely filled and returned indicating 95.7% return rate. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics such as mean (x), standard deviation and t-test statistics. The results of the study identified 18 post COVID child feeding competencies and 14 post COVID child hygiene competencies required by caregivers in day care centres in Delta State. In addition, the result of the hypotheses tested revealed no significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of caregivers and senior nurses on post COVID child feeding and hygiene competencies required by the caregivers in day care centres in Delta State. The study among others recommends that caregivers in day care centres in the state and Nigeria in general should be trained and made to practice strictly the identified post COVID hygiene management competencies for safety of the children.

Abstract This study seeks to investigate Entrepreneurial Competencies in home economics for National Economic Development of Nigeria with a view to ascertain the specific role the entrepreneurship component of home economics education plays in the standard of living of graduates and National economic development. The study adopted a systematic review approach to review over eighty (80) empirical and quality research findings and views of several researchers on related studies from reputable international journals. This study concludes after a systematic and extant review of reputable and empirical studies of related areas that there is a direct connection between entrepreneurial competencies in home economics and Nigeria’s economic development. This result implies that the entrepreneurship component of home economics Education has contributed and is still contributing to Nigeria’s economic development through employment creation, which contributes to the increase in GDP. The study also discovered that home economics’ mission to improve family well-being and national development, along with its multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, context-based, and skills-based nature, makes it an ideal field for the integration of entrepreneurship knowledge. The knowledge and skills learned in home economics, including consumer education, household resource management skills, and HE-related marketable skills, provide the ideal combination to improve the sustainability of micro and small businesses. The study recommends that the federal government should create a national policy on aggressive entrepreneurship implementation to drastically reduce youth unemployment and crime in view of proven contributions of entrepreneurship education to National Economic Development of Nigeria.

Abstract Abstract This study examined how meal planning has affected or influenced the nutritional level of the family and the economic budget for food in some selected elite families in Delta State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was used using Nutrition and Budgeting on Meal Planning among Families questionnaire to collect data from randomly selected 120 elite families residing in the urban areas of Delta State. The result showed that meal planning significantly improved meals' nutritional value, as most reported improved dietary variety and health status. In addition, meal planning enhances proper budgeting by reducing food loss and preventing unplanned purchasing. A large portion of respondents believe that meal planning has a moderate impact on family health outcomes, such as maintaining a balanced diet and preventing diet-related diseases. However, meal planning is also countered by factors such as a lack of time, increased food prices, and limited access to fresh ingredients. Targeted intervention is therefore recommended on meal planning through government subsidies for healthy foods, nutrition education programs, and community-based meal planning initiatives to improve food security in the State for better health and economic stability of the family.

Abstract This research assesses the nutrition education and household food choice/consumption patterns in Delta State, Nigeria. It attempts to explore how nutrition education shapes the choice and consumption of processed foods, focusing on sugary drinks, packaged snacks, and instant noodles. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for this research. A survey was given to 384 households. The study utilised Pearson Product Moment and multiple regression statistics. A Pearson correlation analysis revealed a moderate to strong positive relationship (r = 0.723) between the two variables, suggesting that higher levels of nutrition education are associated with improved food choices and consumption patterns. The correlation was found to be statistically significant, with a p-value of 0.039, indicating that the observed relationship is unlikely to be due to chance. These findings suggest that nutrition education programs may be crucial in promoting healthier dietary behaviours. However, while the study highlights the positive impact of nutrition education, it also emphasises the need to consider additional factors such as socioeconomic status, food accessibility, and cultural influences that may also affect food choices. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on the importance of nutrition education in public health interventions aimed at improving dietary habits and preventing diet-related diseases. This study emphasizes that nutrition education is essential in bringing about healthier dietary practices and therefore, recommends targeted nutrition education programmes as a valuable strategy in the improvement of public health and reduction of diet-related diseases in the state.

Abstract This study is a research investigation with the main objective of ascertaining the nature of influence music has on Entrepreneurial culture and society. The study adopted an exploratory and systematic review method which used secondary source of data. The result confirmed a direct connection between Music, that’s singing, dancing, and listening to good songs and Entrepreneurial success. This means that playing music with all of your heart will help your spirit and psyche, it is less expensive than therapy, and scholars have said that it can lead to your entrepreneurial success. The studyencourages all entrepreneurs to cultivate and treasure the ways that music can influence their business and always look out for the great attributes that music abilities can provide in your employees, and cherish and grow your own musical pastimes which this study has confirmed that it can lead to entrepreneurial success. There is no denying music's influence on culture and society. It has the capacity to unite individuals, mold identities, mend injuries, and spur transformation. As we continue to progress as a civilization, music will surely play a significant part in molding our future and defining our common experiences. Music entrepreneurial culture is a vital tool for economic development of Nigeria and Music industry. It enhances personal development and foster creativity. It is quite clear that Music as an integral part of culture. Additionally, the study found a positive and direct relationship between music and entrepreneurial culture and society, indicating that music helps employees develop an entrepreneurial culture that improves performance and can lead to entrepreneurial success.
